“Hey, can you help me find my favorite shirt?” I asked. “I don’t know the color or anything, but it’s a striped one.” A guy in Aggie gear smiled and pointed towards the back corner of the store. “We have them over there,” he said with a nod. “Thanks,” I called as I headed in that direction. When I got to where he’d indicated, all sorts of shirts were hanging up on display racks: Polos with school logos and slogans; tank tops with stripes and ribbons; maroon short-sleeves for ladies like me who want something more modest… But no striped shirts! The only thing similar was this blue polo shirt which had white

I’m not sure when it happened, but I’ve been noticing a lot more Aggies wearing Hawaiian shirts. The guy in the stall next to me at the grocery store was sporting one and he could barely form sentences without talking about how much he loved his school. So, I decided to do some research on these shirts and figure out what’s going on with this trend. Apparently they’re very popular among A&M fans because of their vacations in Hawaii during football season! And since there are no pro teams near Texas, sports are pretty much all that Texans have left for entertainment.” -The Fashionable Texan

I remember the day when I first got my big break. It was finally happening, I would be able to buy any shirt that caught my eye. The only question was which one? My heart beat nervously as the Aggie’s Athletic Dept representative led me through their expansive warehouse of colors and styles. It felt like an eternity before we reached the far side of the building, where they had an entire wall dedicated to Hawaiian shirts. “Here you are,” she said with a smile, gesturing proudly at her favorite section. “We’ve got everything from tropical prints to luaus.” Before I could respond, someone tapped me on shoulder and asked if he could help me find anything in particular or answer any questions about

Aggie was excited for the party. She stopped at her favorite store to buy a brand new Hawaiian shirt for everyone to wear to the pregame tailgate. As she walked up and down the aisles, Aggie debated what color she wanted it in. Red, green–but then again, they were all so bright and cheerful! Just as Aggie had made her decision, her phone rang. It was her mom calling with bad news: there would be no party this weekend because of weather conditions in Houston! The line went dead before she could say anything else though, so Aggie just hung up the phone without saying goodbye. So much for that Hawaiian shirt…

“The thing is, I was wearing a shirt that said A&M. And they’re not exactly the biggest fans of the Aggies around here,” he says with a chuckle. “I was waiting in line to order my food and when it got to be my turn, the guy at the counter just stared at me for maybe ten seconds before saying anything.” He shakes his head back and forth, continuing to laugh nervously. “Anyways, what I’m trying to say is that there’s no way this isn’t about football.”

“Gotta have a relaxing day today.” I tell myself as I head to my closet and pull out the first thing that caught my eye: a Hawaiian shirt. “Looks like it’s going to be another perfect day in College Station!”
